Norma's Deli, a Greek deli at the foot of the Corso
The team behind Butterboy and Rollers Bakehouse turned an old souvenir shop at the bottom of the Corso into an all-day Greek deli, bakery and grocer.
For years, the large shopfront at the bottom of the stairs on the Corso sold souvenirs, and by Time Out's account not very good ones. Then the people behind Butterboy next door and Rollers Bakehouse nearby took it on, and owner James Sideris named the new place after his grandmother, Norma.
Norma's is several things at once: bakery, café, diner and grocer, Mediterranean in spirit with a Greek focus. The room is big and open, with separate areas for eating in and takeaway, terrazzo surfaces, and glass cabinets filled with sweet and savoury things.
The baking is done on site. Sourdough and croissants are baked in-house every day, cakes come out each morning, and sandwiches are made to order, with coffee from Single O. Whole cakes, mini cakes and pastries can be ordered ahead, and the kitchen caters for everything from birthdays to office events.
The grocer runs along the walls. Shelves carry pantry goods, from pasta sauces and pickles to hot sauce and natural wine, and the fridges hold cheese, charcuterie and ready meals.
Come for a coffee and something from the cabinet, stay for lunch at a table, or leave with dinner from the fridge.
