Inside Butterboy, Manly's Cookie-First Bakehouse

There are plenty of reasons to walk down the Corso. A warm cookie is one of the more convincing ones.

Butterboy has built its name on chunky, hand-rolled cookies, the sort you buy for the contrast between a baked edge and a soft middle. The Manly shop is at 74–78 The Corso, where the brand's colourful identity and cookie counter make it a fairly obvious stop for anyone looking for something sweet.

It started with muffins

Founder James Sideris began selling muffins and cookies to local cafés while he was at university. As big New York-style cookies started finding their audience, he shifted the business towards the format that became Butterboy.

The Manly location remains an important part of that story, but it is no longer the entire map. Butterboy's official store directory now includes locations at Chatswood Chase, Broadway, Brookvale and Byron Bay alongside the Corso shop. Exact new openings are best checked on its site.

What to choose

The cookies are the reason to visit. Think thick bakery-style rounds, familiar chocolate combinations and rotating flavours that reward a look at the counter rather than an assumption that last month's favourite is still there.

Butterboy also promotes soft serve and other sweet treats through its stores. The line-up can vary, so it is worth checking the day's options if you have a particular flavour or dietary requirement in mind.

More than a Manly favourite

What began with local café deliveries has turned into a multi-store cookie business. The appeal is uncomplicated: walk in, choose from the cookies available and take something away for later, if it makes it that far.
